Josep Cubells, Barcelona executive and Director responsible for the basketball team, doesn’t expect big man Chimezie Metu to be returning to the club next season.
“There have been talks with the players although, as of today, I can confirm that he won’t be a Barcelona player next season due to a decision by the technical managers,” Cubells said to Sport.
Metu suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in March that forced an abrupt end to his debut season in Europe. Prior to his injury, it had been reported that Barcelona would extend his contract but the Blaugrana decided to part ways with the player.
Recently, it was reported that Barcelona is having a change of mind regarding Metu and that they consider the possibility of signing him to a new deal. According to Cubells, there’s currently no such scenario.
In 2024-25, Metu averaged 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds through 24 EuroLeague appearances in his maiden participation in the competition.
