An injury from recent international action with Croatia forced Real Madrid’s Mario Hezonja to the sidelines.
The team based in the capital of Spain updated the status of the 30-year-old combo forward on Monday.
Per the press release: “Following tests carried out on Mario Hezonja by Real Madrid‘s medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the biceps femoris in his right thigh, which occurred during training with the Croatian national team. His progress will be monitored.”
Suiting up in all four games of Croatia in the Pre-Qualifiers of the FIBA World Cup 2027 between August 6 and 20, Hezonja tallied 15.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest. Building up a 4-0 run opposite Denmark and Norway in Group G, his country advanced to the Qualifiers, placing alongside Germany, Israel, and Cyprus in Group E.
Switching back from international action, his focus is on the 2025-26 edition of the EuroLeague and domestic competitions in Spain. Starting the next journey in Europe’s premier club continental competition, the team guided by new head coach Sergio Scariolo visits Virtus Bologna at Virtus Arena in Round 1 of the Regular Season on September 30.
After being medically cleared, the native of Dubrovnik will start his ninth EuroLeague season and fourth with Los Blancos. He is a veteran of 186 games.
Between 2015 and 2020, Hezonja also appeared in 335 NBA games with the Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic, and New York Knicks.

Madrid also shared a medical update on David Kramer, following the removal of the 28-year-old guard from the EuroBasket roster of Germany.
Per the press release: “Following tests carried out on David Krämer by the Real Madrid medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in the adductor longus of the right thigh, which occurred during training with the German national team. His progress will be monitored.”
In July, Kramer joined Real Madrid for the next season. After being medically cleared, he will return to the EuroLeague following six appearances with FC Bayern Munich during the 2020-21 season.
