Despite the turmoil of the last few days caused by Olympiacos’ letter, the Euroleague’s clubs/shareholders will vote in a few hours on where the next Final Four will be held, and Athens is – again – the big favorite.
According to Eurohoops sources, Belgrade’s candidacy, due to the political situation in the neighboring country, has lost a lot of ground, and it now seems unlikely that Athens will not be the host for the 2026 event.
The only way this won’t happen tomorrow, Wednesday (9/10), is if the vote is postponed again, something that also has slim chances to happen, since time is running out with the season starting in less than three weeks.
The 2027 and 2029 Final Four have already been “locked” in Abu Dhabi, while on the Greek side, there is currently a desire, once the reconstruction works of the Peace and Friendship Stadium are completed, to raise the issue of candidacy for the Final Four in Piraeus, something that last happened in 1993, before the modern EuroLeague era.
