Monaco is aiming again for the EuroLeague crown, and Nikola Mirotic wasn’t shy about the ultimate goal.
The Montenegrin power forward set the tone for what Monaco wants in the upcoming season.
“At 34, I want to win”, said Mirotic: “I hope to be the element that the team was missing to go after the title. In the team, we have two Euroleague MVPs, but we are missing the most important thing: the Euroleague trophy. That’s why I’m here. I worked for it, and sometimes it takes time; keep believing in it. You have to be at the right time in the right place; Monaco can be that place. Being in the Final Four is already a huge accomplishment that is difficult to achieve every year”.
President Alekszej Fedoricsev, general manager Oleksiy Yefimov, Matthew Strazel, and Alpha Diallo were also present at the press conference, with Fedoricsev being quite clear also.
“At the end of last season, we came very close to winning the title”, as he said, “This year again, we’re aiming very high. In four years, we haven’t missed a single playoff campaign and have reached the Final Four twice. These results prove that our project is going in the right direction, and are great moments for the Monegasque sports family”.
Monaco’s president also repeated that the club has big off-court goals also: “AS Monaco Basket is ambitious, on and off the court. We want to be a long-term stakeholder in the EuroLeague, and that includes the arena project. Our goal is to continue proving that Monaco has a place at the top of Europe. I hope this new season will once again inspire the fans and bring us titles.”
