Reacting to a complicated start to the 2025-26 journey, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet brought back recently released Yago dos Santos.
The 26-year-old Brazilian point guard will undergo necessary medical tests on Wednesday, before meeting the coaching staff and his teammates in Belgrade. Pending clearance, his contract will last until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos recently previewed a backcourt addition, but a packed injury list is likely to force frontline reinforcement as well. With Joel Bolomboy, Isaiah Canaan, Ognjen Dobric, Devonte’ Graham, and Uros Plavsic already on the sidelines, Jasiel Rivero was hurt in Round 1 of the new EuroLeague Regular Season and is a candidate for a lengthy spell on the injury list.
Besides the returning Sao Paolo native, currently healthy players are Tyson Carter, Dejan Davidovac, Ebuka Izundu, Nikola Kalinic, Codi Miller-McIntyre, Stefan Miljenovic, Chima Moneke, Jordan Nwora, and Semi Ojeleye, with youngsters Ognjen Radosic and Lazar Stojkovic also suiting up opposite EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Belgrade Arena on Tuesday. In a quick turnaround to the bottom end of the opening double-game week, Zvezda will visit FC Bayern Munich at SAP Garden on Thursday.
Over the previous two seasons, Santos played in 63 games of Europe’s premier club continental competition with the Serbian powerhouse. In the 2024-25 journey, he tallied 6.3 points and 3.3 assists per contest. Also, he was crowned AdmiralBet ABA League and AdmiralBet Basketball League of Serbia champion in 2024, and won the Radivoj Korac Cup in 2024 and 2025.
