After losing to Valencia in the Spanish SuperCopa final and then to Virtus in Bologna in the opening game of the EuroLeague season, Real Madrid needed something.
They got it by beating Olympiacos; however, as Mario Hezonja said in his flash interview after the game, everybody simply needs to have patience.
As Hezonja explained: “We are a brand new team, everything is basically new, we are going step by step. And like we didn’t react after the loss in Bologna, we are not going to react after the win over Olympiacos, because it’s not about the team we played against, it’s about us. We need to keep improving, be quiet and listen to what the coach has to say, because there’s a lot of information, a lot of new ideas, and we need to help him also establish the new system”.
Later in the press conference, Sergio Scariolo complimented the Croatian forward: “I’m happy with Mario’s attitude. Some people scared me… but I only see a player that wants to improve. This is a person that wants to be disciplined, and he is respectful”.
Facundo Campazzo echoed Hezonja, proving that Madrid players are on the same page: “Everything here is new and we need the have the same speech, even if we lose, or in wins like tonight. We are building something, and everybody, even us, has to be patient. Sometimes there’s an emergency, and we need to have a good result right now, but we are building something. We have to put our energy into this time, try to listen to our coach, and put the message in the game”.
