Croatian forward Luka Šamanić will no longer be part of Baskonia’s roster after the two sides reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract for personal reasons.

The club thanked Šamanić for his professionalism and commitment during his time in Vitoria-Gasteiz and wished him success in his future personal and professional endeavors.

Šamanić joined the Vitoria-based team midway through last season, after parting ways with Fenerbahçe and briefly playing for Cibona before returning to the EuroLeague stage.

This season, in five EuroLeague appearances, the 25-year-old Croat averaged 7.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

This marks another setback for Baskonia, who are already dealing with injuries to Trent Forrest, Markus Howard, and Rodions Kurucs, with the two American guards expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Samanic returning to Cibona

As reported by Bruno Feliks, Luka Samanic is set to return to Cibona. This marks a repeat of the move he made after leaving Fenerbahce last season, before eventually joining Baskonia.

The 25-year-old began his professional career in Barcelona’s youth setup, later playing for Barcelona B. In 2018, he moved to Petrol Olimpija and was subsequently selected 19th overall in the NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

Samanic spent two years with the Spurs, including time in the G League, and also played for the Utah Jazz during the 2023–24 season before joining Fenerbahce, where he did not appear in any official games.
