It’s not a secret that Jared Butler has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and this so far has not stopped him from playing professional basketball.
According to the Serbian news outlet “Nova.rs” the player has not passed the first medical exams after signing with Crvena Zvezda.
However, the club issued a press release shortly after clarifying that Butler is medically cleared and will compete this week against Maccabi, missing only the game against LDLC ASVEL.
Per the press release: “American combo guard Jared Butler successfully passed a three-day medical examination in Belgrade, and received permission to play for KK Crvena Zvezda. He will immediately be made available to the team and the coach, and will be registered for the Euroleague match with Maccabi on Thursday.

Due to his condition, in June 2021, Butler was referred to a fitness-to-play panel by the NBA and was not permitted to play or practice; however, he got cleared one month later and has 148 NBA games under his belt.
Zvezda also announced that Devonte Graham has joined the team’s practices and that Jordan Nwora is successfully undergoing therapy for his injured calf and his presence on the court against Maccabi will be a gameday decision.
