After ten straight points to open Round 7 of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season, FC Bayern Munich rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat Real Madrid, 90-84, on Tuesday.
Comfortably surpassing his previous individual best in the EuroLeague and falling one point shy of his career-high, Isiaha Mike stood out with 29 points behind 9/16 field goals, including three triples.
“We’ve been struggling lately. We finally had a third quarter where we responded after going down big,” said the 28-year-old winger, describing how the German club stormed back in the second half of the meeting in SAP Garden.
“We regrouped at halftime. Our defense was much better in the second half. They showed great resilience by not folding. Give our players a lot of credit,” added head coach Gordon Herbert, pleased by his side matching the visitors at 3-4 at the top of a double-game week.
Facing his first EuroLeague team from last season, Xavier Rathan-Mayes ended up with 14 points and four assists. Oscar da Silva posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Stefan Jovic had eight points, six assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Returning to action following a knee injury with the senior national team of Germany in EuroBasket 2025, Johannes Voigtmann was a starter, chipping in three points, five rebounds, three steals, and one assist over 13:50.
In contrast, recent signing Spencer Dinwiddie was unavailable, Niels Giffey was ruled out due to an infection, David McCormack and Aleksa Radanov were left out of the lineup, and Rokas Jokubaitis (left knee surgery) and Elias Harris (left knee surgery) remained on the injury list. Meanwhile, Leon Kratzer lasted only a few plays and was ejected after a second unsportsmanlike foul with 5:56 remaining in the second period.
With Madrid initially coming back from the wrong end of a 10-0 start by Bayern, Facundo Campazzo combined a milestone of 2,000 points in Europe’s premier club competition with a three-pointer to shape the first Los Blancos lead with 4:27 left in the first quarter. The 34-year-old Argentine point guard ended up with eight points.
Trey Lyles recorded a team-high 20 points. Theo Maledon and Walter Tavares followed with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Besides Andres Feliz (back strain) missing the trip to Munich, Gabriele Procida was a healthy scratch for Sergio Scariolo’s side.
“We were not ready at the beginning of the third quarter, with the same lineup which had that great run to finish the second. Again, we had lapses of concentration, which lasted too much. We fouled, but we had really poor defense in the second half. Honestly, our defense in the second half was below an acceptable level,” the 64-year-old Italian play-caller reacted to his side’s fifth loss in as many road showings in the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa.
