Bayern Munich made headlines with the signing of NBA veteran Spencer Dinwiddie, and the experienced guard is already proving impactful — the German side has won every game with him in the lineup so far.
He eased into action during his debut against Virtus Bologna, then impressed as Bayern’s leading scorer with 18 points in a Bundesliga win over Heidelberg, and came up clutch in a recent road win against Paris.
It appears Dinwiddie has settled in quickly and confidently after choosing Bayern Munich over multiple options.
“I talked a lot with my agents to look at all the opportunities available, whether it was in the NBA, in China, or in the EuroLeague. But the familiarity I had with Gordie [Herbert], the fact that it’s a beautiful city with great facilities, that was appealing,” Dinwiddie said to BasketEurope.
Despite a demanding schedule and the temporary living situation, he says the transition has been smooth.
“For now, I’m living in a hotel, so it’s kind of like every game is a road game in a way. But it’s great. We haven’t lost yet. The team is great, we have a very good group, both players and staff, so it’s cool.”
The veteran guard also pointed to a broader trend of NBA players recognizing the level of competition in Europe.
“Everybody is realizing that there is another very high-level basketball league in the world. The EuroLeague is very competitive. We have the chance to keep chasing our dreams and to enjoy playing the game, no matter where you are in your career. I think that’s why a lot of players move from the NBA to the EuroLeague.”
On the floor, he is already adapting to the differences in style and strategy.
“The defensive concepts are completely different, the paint is more packed, there are many more traps, that kind of stuff. The game is clearly not the same.”
