Real Madrid had yet to win an away game.
And they got the first road win when it mattered most: in the first Clásico of the season.
Real Madrid defeated Barça 92-101 to jump to a 5-4 record, the same as the Catalan team.
Trey Lyles had an amazing game, scoring 29 points to finish as the game’s top scorer. Facundo Campazzo (12), Theo Maledon (12), and Mario Hezonja (15) joined him in the double-digit club.
Will Clyburn (17 p.), Kevin Punter (18 p.), and Jan Vesely (15) were once again Barça’s top scorers, who had almost no impact from the second unit.
Since the tip-off, it was clear that Real Madrid was one step ahead, hitting shot after shot, controlling the tempo of the game, and having a historic first half: no away team had scored 58 points in Palau Blaugrana.
The ten-point lead (58-48) that Real Madrid had to start the second half felt almost like an underachievement.
Despite dominating the game, the Blancos couldn’t get a remarkable lead entering the third quarter, but that was no problem for the main protagonist of the game.
Trey Lyles kept showing the whole Euroleague why he was one of the most exciting signings of the summer, extending the lead to a comfortable 68-52.
After that, the guests were able to comfortably manage the lead, entering the fourth quarter with an 85-69 lead on the scoreboard that allowed them to grab a valuable win (and point difference) in Palau Blaugrana.
