The game between Virtus and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 12th round of the EuroLeague, scheduled for November 21, could be postponed.
This information was announced by the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, and reported by the Ansa.
The reasons of possible postponement are public safety amid expected protests against Israel’s alleged genocide in the Gaza Strip. Matteo Lepore confirmed everything on Tuesday.
“As mayor of the city, I want to reiterate my strong concerns about the Virtus-Maccabi match scheduled for November 21st at the “PalaDozza”. In my opinion, public order conditions are not in place to manage this event calmly. The risks to the safety of citizens, shops, and the city are extremely high. We still have time to move the game to another date and location. I ask (Interior) Minister (Matteo) Piantedosi to reconsider for everyone’s good.”
Virtus has a record of 5-6 after 11 games, while Maccabi has three wins and eight losses.
