Less than two days after the unexpected decision of legendary Ettore Messina to step down from the bench of Milan, his heir made him proud.
Under coach Peppe Poeta, Milan got the 102-88 win in Belgrade against Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv.
With Shavon Shields having one of the best nights of his career with 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, the Italians, after leading by six at halftime (54-48), closed the third period up by 17 (79-62), and the game was over.
Armoni Brooks added 20 points, the duo of Josh Nebo – who returned from injury – and Leandro Bolmaro added 11 points each, and Zach LeDay contributed 10 more.
Lonny Walker with 21 points and Roman Sorkin with 20 put up good numbers; however, in the second half, the game was not competitive, and the final score is almost flattering for the home side.
Milan led by 26 points (102-76) before relaxing a bit at the end on the way to a 7-6 record. On the other hand, Maccabi, with three wins in 13 rounds, remains at the bottom of the standings.
