Maccabi defeated Partizan 112-87 in the 18th round of the EuroLeague, in the first match of Joan Penarroya on the bench of the Serbian team.

The Spaniard took over Partizan just a few days ago and at a very difficult moment, but in a short time he wasn’t able to change the situation, so the Belgrade club suffered a very heavy defeat on its home court.

After the match, Penarroya addressed the media and emphasized that he and the coaching staff have hellish work ahead.

“It’s not good first game for me. My job is to stay calm, I need to have time to analyze things, two to three weeks to see everything and then to talk to managers to see possible situations and outcomes. It’s hard to be optimistic at this moment. But I’m ready to get to work and try to change the situation. It won’t be easy, but we need to change the mentality. The whole team, from the players to the coaching staff.”

Penarroya also responded to the question about Jabari Parker, who again didn’t play a single second.

“He is a player of Partizan. Today is a technical decision why he didn’t play. I don’t have personal problem with Jabari Parker, its just a technical decision. If he stays in the roster, he can play.”

Partizan now has six wins and 12 losses and will conclude the first part of the EuroLeague with a trip to Valencia. Maccabi has strung together a fifth win, now at 8-10, and will visit Bayern in the next round.
