Tyrique Jones could not have asked for a better start to his Olympiacos career.

The American center delivered a flawless debut as the Greek giants cruised to a dominant 120–80 victory over Karditsa, immediately making his presence felt in red and white. Jones was perfect from the field, finishing with 14 points on 6/6 shooting from two-point range and 2/2 from the free-throw line, while also adding four rebounds and two steals in just 20 minutes of action.

His performance highlighted exactly why Olympiacos head coach Giorgos Bartzokas targeted him: energy around the rim, athleticism, and defensive intensity. From his first minutes on the court, Jones showed he was ready to contribute, offering strong finishes near the basket and an active defensive presence.

His impact helped Olympiacos impose their rhythm early and never look back. After the game, Jones spoke to Greek public broadcaster ERT, opening up about his first days with the club, the complicated nature of his transfer, and his ambitions with Olympiacos.

“I’m happy to be playing basketball again,” Jones said. “I’ve only been here a few days and I’m just happy. The transfer situation was a bit complicated. What appeared in the media was pretty much what happened. At first, you’re told you have to leave, and then you’re told you have to stay.”

The American center explained that the resolution of the situation has allowed him to refocus fully on basketball. “Now I’m in a better environment, mentally and physically,” he added. “I’m happy that both sides reached an agreement. I’m here to win and to help the team. The goal is the EuroLeague.”

Jones also confirmed that he will not face his former club, Partizan, due to a clause in his agreement. “No, that’s part of the deal and something I had to accept,” he said. “I’m doing whatever it takes to stay ready and in shape for the rest of the games.” Asked about what he brings to Olympiacos, Jones was clear and direct: “Energy, defense, rebounding, athleticism, and the ability to finish plays with baskets.”

He also expressed confidence in Olympiacos’ frontcourt, suggesting that the trio of Nikola Milutinov, Moustapha Fall, and himself could be the best group of big men in the EuroLeague. “I believe it is,” Jones said.

Finally, Jones spoke positively about his adaptation to life in Greece and his new surroundings. “I feel good here,” he noted. “The weather is nice, the atmosphere is positive, and Olympiacos is a great club. I have friends both at Olympiacos and at Panathinaikos.”
