FC Barcelona’s basketball future remains a topic of intense international interest, and today there was a high-level meeting involving NBA commissioner Adam Silver and senior Barça officials, who remain committed to the EuroLeague.

According to Ernest Macià, the encounter, attended by Josep Cubells and Jordi Trias, highlighted the NBA’s growing determination to bring one of Europe’s most iconic clubs into its long-term global project with FIBA.

The meeting also included a notable and unexpected presence: Pau Gasol. The former NBA champion and Barça legend reportedly took part in the talks in an informal but strategic role, aiming to “seduce” the club and underline the sporting and symbolic appeal of a potential FIBA–NBA-backed competition.

But despite the NBA’s overtures, FC Barcelona’s immediate path appears defined.

As reported by Eurohoops, the blaugrana club is expected to formally approve its commitment to the EuroLeague at the end of this week, with the decision set to be ratified by the board of directors. This move ensures Barça’s presence in Europe’s current premier basketball competition for the next 10 years.

However, the door is not fully closed to alternative scenarios. Sources close to the club indicate that Barcelona remains open to the FIBA–NBA project should it become a concrete and viable reality in the future, aiming to compete in the highest-quality competition available.
