For five days 120 young talents from all over the country came together to practice in morning and afternoon sessions and to compete in a final 3×3 tournament. In addition to the on-court sessions, Chus Mateo led a coaches clinic with local coaches and guests from Cuba and Argentina. The overall program combined basketball training with educational and mental performance components in cooperation with the EHCB Foundation partner RIZE.
Chus Mateo: “After this extraordinary personal experience in Bolivia, I have no doubt that Basketball has no owner. Basketball belongs to everyone and is for everyone. The efforts I have seen boys and girls in Bolivia make – traveling for more than a day at barely 12 or 13 years old just to be able to attend the first EHCB Foundation camp have been some of the most beautiful things you can witness for the love of Basketball. We truly do not realize the influence our example can have in so many different places around the world. When you take part in an event like the one I have just finished, you feel firsthand the romance of the pure game, the respect for effort beyond winning or losing. It takes you out of the whirlwind of matches and competition and brings you to other different worlds whose only common bond is the sport we love: Basketball. It is our duty to bring our sport to every corner of the world, to share it and to care for it. No one owns our game. Thank you, Bolivia, for giving so much love to Basketball in such a short time.”
With this initiative, the EHCB foundation continues its mission to use Basketball as a platform for education, inspiration and long-term development. Special thanks also to our EHCB Coaches Academy alumnus and EHCB Ambassador Luis Arias Botello for being the local organizer and for his commitment to the EHCB.”
