Panathinaikos is set to play a road game against Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in EuroLeague Round 24.
The Greens are the first Greek team to visit Israel since 2022, and according to Panathinaikos’ official announcement, head coach Ergin Ataman and the team were verbally abused before entering the arena by Maccabi fans.
“More than 300 Maccabi fans were waiting for the Panathinaikos BC AKTOR delegation right outside the entrance to the locker rooms, hurling insults at our head coach, Ergin Ataman, and the rest of our team,” Panathinaikos stated.
In the first part of the EuroLeague regular season, Panathinaikos defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 99–85 at OAKA Arena. The Athens-based club currently sits eighth in the standings with a 14–9 record, while Maccabi is 14th at 9–14.
