Euroleague Basketball’s Chief Executive Officer, Paulius Motiejunas, alongside more officials, met with European Commissioner Glenn Micallef in Brussels.

Per the press release: “A Euroleague Basketball delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Paulius Motiejunas met on Thursday with the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, at the European Union headquarters in Brussels.
During the meeting, the Euroleague Basketball delegation briefed Commissioner Micallef on the latest developments of its competitions, the EuroLeague, the EuroCup and the Under-18 Adidas NextGen EuroLeague. The discussion also outlined the organization’s strategic vision for the coming years, with a particular focus on expanding its reach and impact in key European markets such as France, Germany and the United Kingdom, amongst others.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange on the role of basketball within the European sports model, highlighting its strong community impact and reinvestment, continuity and competitive credibility, as well as the retention and reinvestment of value within Europe.
Mr. Motiejunas and Commissioner Micallef also shared ideas on the existing challenges that basketball and European sport currently face and agreed on the need to maintain a close cooperation and an open discussion to improve the entire basketball ecosystem, fuel future growth of the sport, and remain true to European sport values and identity.
