Skweek will not air Round 25 EuroLeague games on Thursday and Friday due to a strike by employees protesting ongoing salary delays, as reported by L’Équipe.
The nine scheduled games will not be shown on the platform. The round opened Tuesday with Paris defeating Real Madrid 98–92. Employees approved strike action — potentially extendable — citing recurring payment delays lasting nearly two years, including unpaid salaries for almost two months.
In a statement, staff expressed concern about the company’s financial stability and future.
“Skweek employees voted by majority to issue a strike notice covering the broadcast of EuroLeague Round 25 to protest recurring salary delays that have lasted for nearly two years. As of today, we have not been paid for almost two months. Despite that, we continued working without receiving our salaries during this period. Today, we are denouncing this recurring situation and this serious failure by our employer. We are also very concerned about Skweek’s financial situation and its future,” the platform’s staff said in a statement, according to L’Équipe.
Skweek is owned by Fedcom Media, a subsidiary of Fedcom, the holding company that owns AS Monaco, which is currently facing major financial difficulties and could come under control of the Monegasque state.
Friday’s EuroLeague games involving French clubs — ASVEL vs. Panathinaikos and Monaco vs. Virtus Bologna — will instead be broadcast live on L’Équipe TV and TV Monaco. EuroLeague rights for the French market expire at the end of the season.
