Heading to the next double-game week of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season, the head coach of Real Madrid, Sergio Scariolo, also went into the recent appointment of Chus Bueno as the new Chief Executive Officer for Euroleague Basketball.
“Regardless of Chus’s involvement, we all hope for a more constructive dialogue focused on finding common ground, not confrontation,” mentioned the 64-year-old tactician in Monday’s pregame media session before Tuesday’s meeting with Panathinaikos Aktor in Telekom Center Athens, referring to expanding talks between involved parties about the future of European basketball.
During developments on the joint efforts of the NBA and FIBA to create a new top-tier league, widely labeled as NBA Europe, the team based in the Spanish capital supported the election of the 56-year-old executive, as detailed by Eurohoops.
“Personally, I might be somewhat biased by my personal friendship with Chus. I have great respect and esteem for him,” explained Scariolo.
“Both professionally and personally, he’s the right person at the right time,” he stressed about Bueno taking over as the new CEO.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, this is a huge and difficult task,” the Italian coach also shared a job description for the successor of Paulius Motiejunas. “I don’t believe Motiejunas was the problem, but sometimes a different approach from someone with deeper, more personal relationships with the various parties involved can be helpful.”
Meanwhile, his side carries a 16-9 W-L tally into the EuroLeague’s double-game week, which is tied in fourth place of the EuroLeague standings with Valencia and FC Barcelona.
