Barça fell at home to Paris Basketball, who stepped up a gear in the second half (74–85). The Blaugrana now sit at 17–11 in the standings, and Xavi Pascual spoke about the game, the injuries (with Vesely now added to the list), and the team’s outlook ahead of the Cup.

“Congratulations to Paris. It was a game in which they were superior to us, especially in the second half. It was clear there — in the third quarter they made several three-pointers and we made none,” Pascual told the press. “Before the game we knew we had to score 85 points to win, and our offense wasn’t enough. With these shooting percentages at home, it’s impossible to win,” added the Barça coach.

To the injuries of Kevin Punter and Tomas Satoransky now comes Jan Vesely’s, who had to leave at the start of the second half. A chaotic situation for the Barça squad, which is seeing its stars go down one by one.

“It’s a drama. This week has been very complicated because on top of Punter and Satoransky’s injuries, Toko had a viral illness, Brizuela had another one… and today, on the first possession of the third quarter, Vesely got injured and they scored three points on the fast break. It’s a very complicated situation,” he explained to the media.

“Three starting players out of the game. We say the ones who play have to be perfect, but today we had important players who weren’t good. If they’re not playing well, that’s it. With 74 points at home against Paris Basketball, you can’t win,” he continued regarding the injuries.

He made it clear that they have to compete with what they have, trying to get the most out of the players who give everything on the court.

“We have what we have, and the only thing we can do is make sure the players available play well. We can’t do anything else. Since I arrived — and even before — we’ve had a huge number of injuries. We’ve been juggling to try to stay afloat, and some days it’s just not possible,” Pascual commented.

Next comes the game against Manresa and, in a week, the Cup in Valencia, where eight teams will compete for a title that is always fiercely contested.

“The team will be ready for Sunday. It was a very high-tempo game, with short rotations. We controlled the game in the first half, but in the second, when Vesely got injured, it was almost over,” he said about the match against Paris.

“Everything has been broken for a long time and we’re surviving as best we can. We’re still in the fight. Today the players gave everything — I can’t say they didn’t try. But we did things poorly. We depend on certain players playing well, and that didn’t happen, and that’s it. I have nothing to reproach them for. We have to give it everything,” he concluded.
