Baskonia had just won the Copa del Rey, defeating Barcelona and Real Madrid on its way to the trophy.
However, in their first EuroLeague game since, and in front of their fans in Vitoria, Paolo Galbiati’s side suffered a heavy defeat to Valencia, with the visitors recording a 108-79 win at Fernando Buesa Arena.
After the game, coach Galbiati made it clear he would rather go straight to practice, even though most of his squad will be on a short break due to the FIBA World Cup Qualifying window.
“I want to practice now, but I cannot. I want to kill them. I’m sad about the bad game that we played. It was maybe expected, but no. It’s part of life. We have to grow, they have to grow as men, as professional basketball players, but it’s part of the business. Congrats to Valencia, they played a great game, super serious — we were not so serious and they killed us,” Galbiati said in his usual fashion.
