Joan Laporta has officially secured a new mandate as president of FC Barcelona, winning Sunday’s election with a commanding 68.18% of the vote. Defeating challenger Víctor Font, Laporta is now set to lead the Catalan giants through 2031.

Just days before the polls opened, Laporta pledged a significant budget expansion for the basketball division for the 2026-27 season.

Per the press release: “Joan Laporta i Estruch will continue as FC Barcelona president. That is the decision made by the members in Sunday’s election as they back the ‘Defensem el Barça’ candidacy with 32,934 votes, 68.18% of the vote.

Therefore, Joan Laporta will return to lead the Club for the fourth time, after two spells as president from 2003 until 2010 and again from March 2021 when he won 30,184 votes (54.28%).

Five years on from the last election, the Joan Laporta candidacy has emerged victorious again, defeating the 14,385 votes for rival Víctor Font (29.78%) with 984 blank votes (2.04%).

Unstoppable

Speaking shortly after the result was announced, Laporta said “this is a resounding result and it gives us great strength. It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.”

“This is a wonderful club, where the members elect their president and their board of directors. A club unique in the world, truly extraordinary.”

“I want to make special mention of the members who came out to vote. It has been a celebration of democracy and civic spirit. And I would also like to highlight the excellent work carried out by our executives and staff in organising the election day.”

Member number 9,601

Born on 29 June 1962 in Barcelona, Laporta is the first democratically elected President of FC Barcelona to lead the Club in two separate spells.
