That wasn’t the end, though, as the Villeurbanne team briefly regained the lead. In a tense finish, Tel Aviv ultimately prevailed 89-85, securing an important road victory.
Tamir Blatt orchestrated Maccabi’s win with a double-double of 13 points and 14 assists, while Roman Sorkin led the scoring for the winners with 23 points.
Jimmy Clark added 14, and John DiBartolomeo contributed 13 points, including the free throws with three seconds remaining that sealed the victory.
On the other side, Paul Eboua scored 19 points with seven rebounds, Glynn Watson added 17, and David Lighty chipped in 14 points, as ASVEL battled until the very last moment.
