Olimpia Milano head coach points to missing veteran playmaker after loss to Monaco

Olimpia Milano fell to Monaco in EuroLeague Round 33, slipping further away from the play-in positions.

After the game, head coach Peppe Poeta expressed his disappointment following the road loss to a short-handed Monaco side.

We’re disappointed because we lost in a way that has happened too many times this EuroLeague season. For 35 minutes we played a great game, but in the last five we ruined everything — we weren’t clinical and we struggled against their physicality. In this competition, 35 minutes at a high level are not enough. In the final five minutes, we got everything wrong,” Poeta said.

He also pointed to the lack of experience at the point guard position as a key issue in crucial moments.

It’s clear that throughout the season we’ve paid for the lack of an experienced point guard, but many times we made up for it thanks to Ellis’ excellent season and the support from Bolmaro and Guduric. Today we couldn’t do that.”

In the end, Poeta praised Monaco’s performance.

They are a very physical team, and when they raised their aggression late in the game, they put us in trouble. But for the first 35 minutes they were the same team, and we had the upper hand, playing the game we wanted.
