EuroLeague punished Dimitris Giannakopoulos with a financial penalty amounting to a total of 50,000 euros.
According to the relevant decision, the reason for this large amount is some posts by the owner of Panathinaikos and generally various other behaviors regarding the derby with Olympiacos at Piraeus. The match took place on March 6 for the 30th round, and the team from Piraeus prevailed (86-80).
EuroLeague issued the statement about this decision:
“Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, owner of Panathinaikos, has been sanctioned with the following measures as a consequence of his public statements following the Olympiacos-Panathinaikos game:
A fine of 10,000 euros for his social media statements regarding officiating, according to article 24.2.c) of the EuroLeague Disciplinary Code.
A fine of 20,000 euros for derogatory remarks towards individuals performing technical activities within the context of EuroLeague competitions, according to article 24.2.b) of the EuroLeague Disciplinary Code.
A fine of 20,000 euros for individuals performing technical activities within the context of organizing EuroLeague games, according to article 24.2.e) of the EuroLeague Disciplinary Code.“
