Yago dos Santos and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet have officially terminated their contract by mutual consent, effective Friday. The Brazilian playmaker, who was under contract through 2027, briefly became a free agent with no further financial obligations from the club.

Following his release, he has signed a contract with Virtus Bologna for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. The move reunites him with former ratiopharm Ulm teammate Karim Jallow and reinforces Vu Nere for the stretch run of Italy’s LBA UnipolSai Regular Season and following Playoffs.

This decision concludes a notable tenure with Zvezda for the Most Valuable Player of the AdmiralBet ABA League Finals 2024, who had been brought back to the roster in October to stabilize the backcourt during a complicated start to the 2025-26 season.

Since arriving from Germany in 2023, the first Brazilian player in the club’s history left a lasting mark by winning four trophies, including the AdmiralBet Basketball League of Serbia championship in 2024 and the Radivoj Korac Cup in 2024 and 2025, besides the 2023-24 edition of the ABA League.

In the ongoing installment of the EuroLeague, the Sao Paulo native averaged 2.6 points, 2.2 assists, and 0.8 rebounds per contest over 25 appearances off the bench, increasing his career total in Europe’s premier competition to 88 games, all with the Belgrade outfit. At the regional level, the 27-year-old point guard contributed 7.8 points and 4.9 assists per ABA contest.

Dos Santos originally opened his European chapter in 2022, leading Ulm to the easyCredit BBL championship as the Finals MVP. Earlier in his career, Yago established himself as a dominant force in South America, winning the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2022, the Americas Basketball Champions League 2021, and two Brazilian championships with Paulistano and Flamengo.

A staple of the senior national team of Brazil, his international pedigree is equally impressive, highlighted by a gold medal at the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 and appearances at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
