Paolo Galbiati arrived at Baskonia last summer from Trento and managed to guide the team through a challenging season marked by injuries and roster changes. Despite the difficulties, the Italian coach led the club to the Copa del Rey title and secured the second seed in the ACB League Playoffs behind only Real Madrid.
Baskonia struggled for consistency in the EuroLeague throughout much of the season, but Galbiati still delivered silverware and now has the chance to add another trophy during the Endesa League postseason.
At the same time, rumors surrounding his future continued to circulate, with reports linking him to several clubs, including Barcelona.
However, following Baskonia’s victory over Unicaja in the final round of the ACB regular season, Galbiati publicly stated that he expects to remain in Vitoria for at least another season.
“I’m going to put an end to all the noise. I’ve spoken with the president, I’m very calm. I’m going to continue, and I’m very happy with the connection I’ve built with the fans — I’m delighted. It’s incredible, and I thank everyone for it,” he said during a press conference also attended by senior club officials Félix Fernández and Xevi Pujol, per Noticias de Alava.
When asked directly whether he would remain Baskonia’s head coach for the 2026-27 season, Galbiati once again answered affirmatively.
“The president has guaranteed my continuity. It’s good news, I think so. We’ll have Paolo for next season. Rumors are normal at this stage of the season,” the Italian coach added, effectively confirming that he has reached an agreement with Josean Querejeta to continue leading Baskonia moving forward.
