Monaco receives additional time to secure funding and present investor-backed recovery plan

AS Monaco Basket has received another temporary reprieve in its ongoing financial case.

According to Nice-Matin, Monaco’s court has postponed its review of the club’s financial situation until July 10, giving the French side additional time to provide evidence regarding potential new investors currently in negotiations with the organization.

Despite the club’s inability to repay outstanding loans provided by Monaco’s National Financing Company (SNF) before the June 30 deadline, the court did not declare Monaco insolvent. Instead, it requested further examination of the case, including newly registered debts related to player agents.

The report states that the SNF, a government-backed body that helped keep the club operating throughout the season, is scheduled to end its support on June 30. Monaco must therefore secure new funding in a short period of time.

To help stabilize its finances, the club could generate significant income through player buyouts. Nice-Matin reports that several valuable players under contract are expected to leave, including French international Matthew Strazel, who is attracting interest from clubs in Spain, Turkey, and Italy.

Monaco is reportedly preparing for a major restructuring. The club hopes to operate with a budget of around €10 million next season, a substantial reduction from previous years, while competing in the EuroCup and beginning what is described as a new development cycle.

The long-term objective remains a return to the EuroLeague, potentially through the new franchise system expected to be introduced in 2027.

The timing of the court’s latest extension is particularly important, as the EuroLeague Assembly is scheduled for July 7 and is expected to officially confirm the participants in next season’s European competitions.
