Former NBA second-overall pick James Wiseman is redirecting his career overseas. Agent Misko Raznatovic relayed his decision on Wednesday with a post on X, announcing that the 2.11-meter center will continue his playing career in Europe. His representation has officially begun exploring international opportunities to identify the ideal club environment, marking a definitive shift in the big’s development strategy.
This pivot to the Old Continent comes after immense expectations followed Wiseman into the league based in North America when the Golden State Warriors selected him ahead of several future All-Stars in the 2020 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm.
However, severe medical setbacks consistently stalled that early momentum, beginning with a torn right meniscus during the rookie year that ultimately sidelined him for an entire championship season. Subsequent stints with the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers showcased brief flashes of his peak scoring and rebounding athleticism, but consistency remained elusive. A devastating left Achilles tendon injury on opening night with Indiana further derailed his progress, leading to a carousel of short-term contracts and his eventual release from the roster.
Having appeared in only 155 games throughout his entire NBA tenure, the 25-year-old center recently stayed in game shape by representing Team USA during the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. This international showcase served as a crucial platform to prove his current health and mobility to global scouts, paving the way for his move to the European circuit.

By taking this step, the former top high school recruit aims to secure the consistent playing time and structured environment necessary to rebuild his rhythm, with top-tier teams expected to show significant interest in adding his elite frontline size to their rosters.
It has to be noted that one more player, Maxi Kleber, is evaluating a significant career transition for the upcoming 2026–27 campaign. As a 34-year-old unrestricted free agent in the NBA, the versatile big is currently exploring his options, as reported by Basketnews, nearly a decade after his last appearance with FC Bayern Munich.
