Isaac Bonga is officially the new member of Panathinaikos.
Per the press release: Panathinaikos BC AKTOR announces the signing of Isaac Bonga on a three-year contract.
Bonga was born on November 8, 1999, in Neuwied, Germany. Standing at 2.03m, he plays at the forward positions.
He began his basketball journey in the youth academy of Post SV Koblenz, taking his first steps with SG Lützel-Post Koblenz. In 2016, he joined the Skyliners Frankfurt, where he also made his professional debut.
In 2018, he was selected with the No. 39 overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, with his rights immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent one season. In 2019, he moved to the Washington Wizards, remaining there for two seasons. During that time, he appeared in 106 games, averaging 15.8 minutes, 2.8 rebounds and 1 assist per game.
During the 2021-22 season, he wore the jersey of the Toronto Raptors, making appearances in both the NBA regular season and the Playoffs. With the Raptors 905, Toronto’s NBA G League affiliate, he averaged 14.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 31 games, while playing 29.8 minutes per contest.
In the summer of 2022, he returned to Germany to join Bayern Munich, where he won the German Championship in 2024, as well as the German Cup in 2023 and 2024. During his time with the German club in the EuroLeague, he made 61 appearances, shooting 48.4% from two-point range, while averaging 4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
In 2024, he signed with Partizan, then coached by Zeljko Obradovic. During his time in Belgrade, he celebrated winning the ABA League Championship and the Serbian Championship in 2025. During the 2025-26 EuroLeague season, Bonga appeared in 38 games, averaging 10 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 27:47 minutes per game, while shooting 60.2% from two-point range and 82.7% from the free throw line. He was also named to the ABA League First Team once (2026) and was twice named the ABA League Defensive Player of the Year (2025, 2026).
At the international level, Bonga is a key member of the German National Team, with whom he won the gold medal at both the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket. In fact, in the EuroBasket 2025 Final against Türkiye, Bonga was named MVP after recording 20 points (4/7 two-pointers, 4/4 three-pointers), 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Overall, throughout the tournament with Germany, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while also earning the EuroBasket Best Defensive Player award.
