Real Madrid is moving toward announcing a deal with French center Olivier Sarr, according to a report by El Espanol.
Heading into a demanding 2026–27 season, Los Blancos are determined to reinforce their frontcourt following a severe Achilles injury to Usman Garuba. The 2.08-meter, 27-year-old big brings a modern skillset characterized by mobility and a strong perimeter shot. This acquisition would ensure the storied club remains a EuroLeague championship contender by adding substantial height, shot-blocking prowess, and versatile lineup options.
The move also features a meaningful familial connection to Madrid. Olivier’s younger brother, current Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr, previously developed in the youth academy from 2019 to 2021 before making his leap to North America. Together with incoming veteran center Damian Jones, the elder brother is expected to address an urgent need for defensive presence and experience in the paint for head coach Pedro Martinez.
Since moving from France, the elder Sarr suited up for Wake Forest and Kentucky in the NCAA, where he earned All-ACC honors. Going undrafted in 2021, he fought his way into the NBA, primarily playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder across three seasons, followed by a recent stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over his 50 career NBA appearances, the Niort native has averaged 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while showcasing an impressive 39.1% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc. He has also been a dominant force in the G-League, where he routinely recorded double-doubles, establishing himself as a reliable asset on both ends of the floor.
