Gabriel Deck has obtained Spanish citizenship and will no longer occupy a non-EU roster spot for Real Madrid in domestic competitions, according to MARCA.
The process was completed on July 28 after several years of residence in Spain. Deck had already passed the required examinations and was waiting for the remaining administrative procedures to be finalized.
Liga Endesa teams can register only two non-EU players, a restriction that forced Real Madrid to make roster cuts when three such players were available last season. Deck’s new status gives the club greater flexibility to complete Pedro Martinez’s squad and potentially add another foreign player.
Deck will not, however, qualify as a locally trained player under ACB regulations. Like Facundo Campazzo, he will count as an EU player but not toward the Spanish league’s homegrown quota.
The 31-year-old forward remains under contract with Real Madrid for two more seasons.
