After an emphatic EuroLeague win over Anadolu Efes, Olympiacos faced backlash after a few supporters left graffiti in communal areas of the Sunel Arena. The incident prompted a formal request from AEK.
The Reds condemned the vandals. While AEK noted that most visiting supporters behaved well, they demanded that their Greek rivals promptly identify and bar the culprits. Olympiacos swiftly denounced the actions and ordered immediate repairs.
This friction brings AEK into the competitive world of Greek basketball. Recently, the landscape has been dominated by exchanges between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos Aktor. The two EuroLeague powerhouses have traded barbs over disciplinary complaints, player surgeries, and expansion plans.
The stadium issue is tricky because Olympiacos is currently renting the venue. They moved to Ano Liosia to host continental and domestic fixtures while the Peace and Friendship Stadium undergoes renovations. The lease is a rare partnership and helps AEK financially. Under the agreement, Olympiacos must pay for any damages of this kind.
After their first visit on Friday, Olympiacos will play more games at Sunel Arena this year. Management wants the SEF upgrades done right rather than rushed. According to current projections, the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas will stay at their temporary home before returning to Piraeus in early 2027.
On the court, a 3–1 start in the 2026–27 EuroLeague Regular Season is tied with two other teams in third place. The defending champions trail only undefeated Panathinaikos and Valencia. Domestically, they are 1–0 in the Stoiximan GBL Regular Season, but have zero points due to a past league penalty, leaving them two games behind the leaders.
