Olympiacos and AEK officially finalized an agreement, allowing the reigning EuroLeague champions to temporarily relocate to the Sunel Arena at Ano Liosia.
The deal was confirmed by the Reds on Wednesday.
The move follows months of intensive negotiations and a provisional venue authorization previously granted by the Queen, which cleared the path for the Greek Professional Sports Committee’s necessary oversight. Under the terms of the newly sealed deal, Olympiacos will host both their EuroLeague and Greece’s Stoiximan GBL home fixtures at the venue in the northern part of Athens, while extensive renovation works continue at their traditional home, the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

The relocation ensures that Olympiacos remains within the metropolitan area during the reconstruction of their 40-year-old home venue. The sweeping upgrade of SEF is a massive joint venture, combining a €15 million investment from the club for interior improvements with an additional €25 million provided by the Greek state for comprehensive energy upgrading.
While the practice facilities are already fully operational, the main arena’s renovation continues. Sporting director Christos Bafes previously indicated that the organization prefers a meticulous finish over a rushed return, confirming that the squad will remain away from their primary home through the remainder of the calendar year, with an expected return slated for early 2027.
For AEK, the finalized lease represents a financial victory. The rental fee, which is reported to exceed €1 million, will provide a substantial economic boost to fund the club’s ongoing operational expenses and upcoming player signings.
While exact responsibilities regarding potential arena damages and scheduling logistics have been ironed out, the arrangement stands as a rare collaboration between two of Greece’s most prominent institutions during a critical transition period.
