In the aftermath of all six suspects in the Greek basketball scandal testifying and hearing the charges against them, Olympiacos officially announced that the club has filed two formal complaints, both in the EuroLeague and the Greek League, against Panathinaikos and club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos.
The complaints concern both the offensive conduct of Panathinaikos fans during the EuroLeague game against Baskonia and the social media posts made by Giannakopoulos on his personal Instagram account.
In the case of the EuroLeague complaint, the chants from Panathinaikos fans and a banner held during the game, which were reposted on social media by Giannakopoulos, are, according to Olympiacos, “manifestly defamatory, insulting and discrediting towards our club and our coach, Mr. Giorgos Bartzokas.”
In the case of the Greek League complaint, four social media posts are mentioned which present “as a fact something absolutely false and slanderous, that our team is allegedly a participant or accomplice in the criminal offenses for which referee Vaso Tsarouha is accused, i.e. in the manipulation of basketball matches and that our team has been favored or benefited from the commission of said alleged offences.”
Dimitris Giannakopoulos already commented on the complaints, again on his social media, saying that Olympiacos management is “incapable of learning.”
