Real Madrid’s Theo Maledon has sprained his right knee. The team based in the Spanish capital announced the diagnosis on Friday morning following medical tests, noting that his recovery will be monitored.
The 25-year-old French guard sustained the injury in Round 9 of the 2026–27 EuroLeague Regular Season after landing awkwardly during the opening quarter of Thursday’s game against Fenerbahce Tarfin at the Movistar Arena. Despite the mishap, Maledon stayed on the floor. He led Los Blancos to victory with 26 points and an impressive performance index rating of 35.
However, the win came at a high cost.
Finnish forward Mikael Jantunen completely tore the plantar fascia in his left foot during the second period. He left the court early, unable to put weight on his leg, and went straight to the locker room. Head coach Pedro Martinez expressed concern after the buzzer, admitting to reporters that the situation did not look good. The official club statement later confirmed the full rupture.
These setbacks disrupt a lineup that had just extended its winning streak to ten games across all competitions, pushing its continental record to 6–3. The coaching staff must now adjust their rotations to keep this momentum alive.
Finding solutions will be tough. The roster is already stretched thin, as Maledon and Jantunen join an injury list that currently includes Gabriel Deck, Nick Smith Jr., and Usman Garuba.
Up next, they host Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos in Liga Endesa Regular Season action on Sunday, before Panathinaikos AKTOR to resume their EuroLeague campaign on Wednesday.
