Olympiacos secured a victory in the ninth round of the EuroLeague, defeating Olimpia Milano 84-78 in Athens.
However, Olympiacos’ victory was overshadowed by the bad news the EuroLeague champions received during the day: Jean Montero is expected to miss six months because of a knee injury.
Georgios Bartzokas, the home team’s coach, also spoke about the injury after the game.
“The news we learned about Jean Montero was really disheartening for us. Okay, injuries are part of our life, in sports, but we learned about it about an hour before the game, and I’m sure everyone is somewhat, let’s say, skeptical about it.
As I said a few weeks ago, at the start, we played so many games away from home. Even here, this is not our court. Much respect to our fans who come here to support us, but we know we will have a tough task in the first part of the season, and more or less, we are doing well. I think we are second in the standings, so every win counts now.”
