Olympiacos has encountered a significant problems despite their 84-78 victory against Olimpia Milano in the ninth round of the EuroLeague.
Jean Montero has suffered an injury that will keep him off the court for six months, Evan Fournier is also injured, and Tyler Dorsey is away from the team following his comments about his role in the team and a new contract.
Georgios Bartzokas, Olympiacos‘ coach, spoke about situation about Dorsey after the match.
“I really want Tyler on the team. Last year he helped a lot. Every player’s mentality must be what is required to play for Olympiacos. I don’t know if you understand what I mean. I’ve never held a grudge against any player. To make Olympiacos win, I can do anything, always within moral limits. I have no egos against the players, nor anything personal with anyone. I think this has been proven in the past.”
He added that, on the other hand, players must understand how significant Olympiacos is in Europe and that they must give their maximum effort.
“However, the players themselves must also want it and appreciate what they have in front of them. Olympiacos is a team that everyone wants to be a part of. It is a protagonist in Europe, has this support from the fans, and a successful plan for years. We have been in the Final Four for five consecutive years. If I were a basketball player and wanted to compete at a high European level, I would want to play on this team.”
Bartzokas also spoke about the new project and the arena, which will be opened next year.
“At the same time, the new stadium is being prepared, which will be available within the year. It is a project that is currently very attractive for every player. You might say that I am saying this because I am with Olympiacos. No, I truly believe it. What I want to say is that we all need to appreciate what the team offers us. It is very important.”
