Panathinaikos seemed in total control at halftime against Fenerbahce, but the Turkish team achieved an impressive comeback to ultimately make the 0 – 1 in the series .

Today, Dimitris Giannakopoulos voiced his faith in his team’s potential to turn things around and win a game in Istanbul to reclaim the home-court advantage.

“It was very ugly how things turned out in the game,” Giannakopoulos said talking to Greek Sport-Fm radio. Based on what we’ve shown thus fur, we had hopes that we’ll win the game, perhaps easily as well. This happened in the first half but then there was a black out in everyone’s minds. We didn’t make good management of the game well and lost. There’s a long way to go in the series against Fenerbahce. I’m 100% sure that we have the capability to reverse the situation. Tie the series on Thursday and make the break in Istanbul. We have the talent to achieve that. It’s just a matter of managing our psychology and mind.”

During the previous days, Giannakopoulos’ Instagram profile has been swarmed by by Fenerbahce fans who leave some certain… “colorful” comments in light of the series between the Greek and the Turkish team.

“Sports must unite not divide,” said Giannakopoulos. “Teasing and fun is good. But when things stray and become transnational, Greece – Turkey, it’s 100% wrong. It’s funny and dangerous to mention historical events between Greece and Turkey on social media.”
