Besiktas chairman’s Fikret Orman attacked the EuroLeague as an organization on live television, using more than harsh words.

“I am against the EuroLeague. I will speak frankly: I see it as an organization of robbery. And I am against sending any clubs to EuroLeague”, said Orman.

Of course, only two teams from Turkey will participate in the EuroLeague next season and those are Anadolu Efes and Besiktas’ arch-rival and EuroLeague champions Fenerbahce.

Knowing that and probably trying to diminish Fenerbahce‘s achievement, which became the first Turkish team to win the EuroLeague, Orman attacked the whole league: “There is this Spanish company and they created this venture named EuroLeague. They gave minor shares to clubs. Who is the major shareholder? That Spanish company. Is it a federation? No. It’s just a company! And they get these Turkish sponsors. Nine different sponsors. They say ‘If they give more money, we can let Dogus in this year’. Next year, ‘more money, please’. Who owns the television rights? This company. Who gets the sponsorship money? This company. And who pays the money for team trips and all other expenses? The club pays for them! It’s not an organisation like Champions League or Europa League in football. There is no proper income out of it. Who gets the all money then? That Spanish company!”

Orman added about his rivals: “Fenerbahce has spent 25-30 million dollars every season for three years to win the title. But they are still successful. I don’t say it to undermine what they did.”
