Both clubs announced that they parted ways with their coaches with Martinez being already in contact with Khimki and Unics Kazan.

As the coach who led Valencia to the Spanish league title explained: “A few weeks ago I had a conversation with sports director Chechu Mulero and told him that, seeing certain relationships and feelings within the club, I thought that my cycle would end at the end of the season. I wanted to give the club the information to act accordingly and to be sincere with Chechu, with whom I have always had a relationship of confidence”.

When Martinez denied the interest of Barcelona, there were reports about his wish to lead Valencia next season in the EuroLeague, but according to his quotes, his decision to leave Valencia was already taken.
