Real Madrid head coach Pablo Laso confirmed that Cape Verdean center Walter Tavares will be signing with the club, during today’s presser ahead of Thursday’s (8/11) EuroLeague game against Maccabi in Tel Aviv.
Laso expects to have his new player available for the Spanish League “Clasico” vs Barcelona, Sunday.
“You all know he [Walter Tavares] is in Madrid. We have to solve some issues with the contract. When it’s official and if the paperwork is done, he will play against Barcelona if we can complete everything before the registration deadline,” Laso said as reported by Marca.
Laso also revealed that Tavares has been on his plans for some years but, for various reasons, the club was unable to pen a deal with him. Until now.
“He is a player we have been following for a long time since he was in Gran Canaria. Then, he moved to the NBA and we couldn’t compete with that. He has shown a desire to continue in the NBA, but for whatever reason, he didn’t have many opportunities. When (Ognjen) Kuzmic was injured we already knew that the player we wanted was Edy, but it has not been possible until now”.
