With Augustine Rubit leading the way, Brose Bamberg easily defeated Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens at home in a much-needed victory. However, this result is a blow for the Greens in the race for the home court advantage.

Coach Xavi Pascual admitted that his team lost control of the game: “Congratulations to Bamberg. I think that the game was clear. In the first twenty minutes, we did not play well. In the last twenty minutes, when we were losing by ten points we had some chances to change the flow of the game. In the third period, we managed to change the flow of the game and this is why we finished the period losing by just two points. However, in the end, we lost control of our emotions, our focus and we lost the game.

Coach Ilias Kantzouris, who is on the bench of the team because Andrea Trinchieri is still recovering from his shoulder injury, commented the Italian coach’s excitement after the game: “I believe he was very glad. He is a perfectionist, he thinks of what we have to do better. This was his comment on the locker room when we were talking about the game.”

Bamberg‘s coach called a time-out when his team was leading by 15+ points in the final two minutes of the game. “I want to make it clear that I have great respect for Panathinaikos and coach Pascual. I did not want to disrespect to Panathinaikos. Whoever knows me knows that this was the last thing I wanted to do. We were coming from difficult moments, and I just wanted to make sure that this win would not go away. The only thing I can say is that if I was misunderstood I’m really sorry,” he stated after the game.
