Nick Calathes has been Panathinaikos’ leader all season long and yesterday he had another good game, flirting with a double-double.

After also commenting on Dimitris Giannakopoulos and the EuroLeague conflict, he talked to Eurohoops about the next following weeks, what this win against Baskonia means to the team but also his tremendous improvement the last couple of years.

“I’m getting older (laughs). I can read the offense better and help my teammates. I have been with a lot of these guys for two years now so I know how they play. I’m confident, have always been confident, coach puts the ball in my hands and helps me create for these guys and they are just easy to play with,” he says about his teammates. “They make shots, know how to play defensively but like I said we haven’t reached our full potential yet but we are getting better and better and for me personally I need to keep improving and hopefully continue to lead this team.”

The 29-year old point guard also shared his thoughts on how important this win was for the team: “It was a good home win. We needed this win. Like I said prior to the game it was a must-win situation. We came in, played good basketball and now we have a small break.”

Finally, he commented on how significant the following weeks are for the top-4 finish and the home court advantage goal: “We need some rest. Some guys have to get better, they are knocked up, injured. We need to focus on how to get better all around, defensively and offensively,” he concluded by saying.
