George Papagiannis is expected to be waived by the Portland Trail Blazers and sign to Panathinaikos, according to Eurohoops sources.

The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas didn’t go as planned for Papagiannis. The 21-year-old Greek center found scarce playing time with the Blazers and didn’t play at all in the last game. Although Papagiannis’ contract is guaranteed, the Blazers will most likely release the player. And Panathinaikos are waiting.

Panathinaikos have already included Papagiannis in the club’s long-term plans and are ready to add him with a three-year contract. Papagiannis was first acquired by the six-time EuroLeague champions when he was 17 years old and spent two seasons with the team before joining the NBA with the Sacramento Kings in 2016. He already has a connection with Panathinaikos and the club considers him as someone who can be an important member of the Greek core of the team in the upcoming years.

Papagiannis is very close to returning to Europe and Panathinaikos and developments on the matter are to be expected very soon.
