While speaking to Greek radio station Sport FM, Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos admitted that there are talks between him and the EuroLeague about hosting in Athens the Final Four 2020.

“It’s something that’s discussed and there’s goodwill from the EuroLeague side. It might not be held at OAKA, but some other gym in Athens. I can’t say anything more. There’s the idea to do something special on the occasion of 20 years since the institution of the EuroLeague”, said Giannakopoulos.

A few hours before, EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu said on the matter: “Athens is a possibility since the last time we had a Final Four in Greece was 2007. We want the Final Four to return to Greece, we will see when this will happen”.

According to the Greek sports portal “SDNA.gr”, one scenario that’s on the table is for the final four to be held on the Panathenaic Stadium, the open venue used for the revival of the Olympic games in 1896.
