Maccabi Tel Aviv grabbed an important 77-70 victory on the road against Bayern in Round 25 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and can still remain hopeful for a place in the upcoming playoffs. The two teams now fall into a tie in the standings, with a 12-13 record each.

Scottie Wilbekin stepped up for Giannis Sfairopoulos’ squad and with 19 points and six assists, he managed to have a positive impact on his team down the stretch.

It was a slow-paced game by both sides, though Maccabi was in control for nearly the entire game. Bayern’s late comeback in the fourth period didn’t pay off with the result, as Wilbekin and Tarik Black (14 p.) were there to save the day for the Israeli side.

“We controlled the game from our good defense. We disorganized Bayern with the way we played defense. We took them out of their game, and on offense the third period was excellent, and when they came back we made good decisions and had a clear mind. We deserved to win the game. I want to congratulate all the players for their effort and how they played”, commented coach Sfairopoulos after the game.

Despite Derrick William’s 17 point performance, Bayern’s chances to the next round are getting more slim, though there are five more rounds to go and every basket counts.
