Eurohoops TV features Darussafaka Tekfen’s head coach, Selcuk Ernak. The former Banvit and Sakarya boss took over the Turkish club in December and immediately put his trust on the younger members of his squad. “Giving valuable EuroLeague experience to our young players will pay off next year in any competition we take part” he pointed out during his interview.

The 48-year-old Turk coach explained how his plans fit in Darussafaka’s future and added: “My opinion is that the domestic head coaches should add some more value to their domestic leagues. I feel that responsibility” and added: “The success of the youth National Teams is going to translate at senior level, but I don’t think it will be enough to translate to the club level. This year we had five foreign players for each team, but many teams had more to use in European competitions”.

Asked about the level of players forming the Turkish Super Ligi, Ernak went on exploring how other leagues around the world affect the BSL: “It’s all part of the economic situation in our country and Europe generally. Also, Asia is involved, China, Korea, Philippines spend a lot of money for short-term contracts. Plus the new G League rules and the two-way contracts made it very hard to get good quality players”.

“Culture in Turkey is definitely improving” he mentioned talking about basketball’s status in his country. He also offered his take on the Turkish head coaches talking about their work both abroad and in the Super Ligi.
